Synopsis: The play Balkan Ki Aurtein is a very thought provoking and extremely powerful play where the characters are crafted with wonderful complexity. It brings to the forefront, the universal issue that human relationship is above religion and war. Man created war but it is the women who have to pay a heavy price for it: physically, mentally and emotionally. This play is set on the horror of war set in 1990 and brings to the stage a Serbian detention camp for Muslim women. Men are pitted against women, Christians against Muslims, and Croats against Serbs in this drama that bares the inner conflicts that result when society is governed by illogical ethnic hatreds. The play ends with Vlaco leaving the army and in his words: “I deserted because all I had seen I knew was a sign to me from God almighty... a sign... a sign to stop justifying this... this sin. . . to stop warping life into death... and saying it is good... to stop... to stop... to stop... to just stop...” .
